Rideshare and delivery drivers are usually independent contractors, which means taxes are not withheld and every legitimate business expense lowers what you owe. For most drivers, mileage is the biggest deduction by far. The catch is that you need records to back it up.
You can deduct car costs one of two ways: the standard mileage rate (a fixed amount per business mile) or actual expenses (gas, repairs, insurance, depreciation, multiplied by your business-use percentage). Most drivers use the standard rate because it is simpler and often larger.
For 2026 the IRS business rate is 72.5 cents per mile for January 1 to June 30 and 76 cents per mile from July 1 (IRS Notice 2026-10; IRS Announcement 2026-11). AssetFlow applies the rate for each trip date. Check irs.gov for the current rate.
This applies to self-employed people and independent contractors. W-2 employees generally cannot deduct unreimbursed work mileage on their federal return.
If you want to use the standard rate for a car you own, you generally need to choose it in the first year you use that car for business.
A mileage deduction should be backed by a log made at or near the time of each trip, showing the date, miles driven, where you went and the business purpose. A platform's annual tax summary may include only miles driven on trips, so check what your platform's summary covers; many drivers keep their own log as well.
On the Pro plan and up, AssetFlow logs trips either by entering them manually or by recording a trip with your phone's GPS while the app is open, with a purpose for each trip. Receipts for parking, tolls, supplies and phone bills can be photographed or forwarded by email, and AI categorizes them.
At tax time, AssetFlow generates a mileage log and an expense summary you can export to PDF or CSV for your tax software or preparer.
AssetFlow costs $6/month (Base), $10/month (Pro, includes mileage tracking) or $19/month (Business, up to 10 team members), or $149/year for Business billed annually. 7-day free trial, no credit card required, then $1 for the first month.
AssetFlow does not import earnings from Uber, Lyft or DoorDash, and GPS recording does not run automatically in the background; you start and stop each trip. Dedicated mileage apps detect drives automatically, which some full-time drivers prefer. AssetFlow is a better fit if you want mileage, receipts and tax documents in one place.
Yes. Drivers are independent contractors and can generally deduct business miles using the standard mileage rate or actual expenses, if they keep adequate records.
Mileage tracking is included in Pro ($10/month) and Business ($19/month), and in the $149/year annual Business plan.
